The project “PLANCLIMAC: Joint Planning, Monitoring and Observation, Knowledge Improvement and Awareness on Climate Change Risks and Threats in Macaronesia” aims to uptake scientific knowledge and technological capacity in the MAC Region, in order to provide tools assisting the implementation of adaptation policies and readiness facing natural risks related to climate change.
This initiative, which has received 85% co-funding from the ERDF fund within axis 3 (“to promote the adaptation to Climate Change and risk prevention and management”) of the Interreg Programme MAC 2014 – 2020, involves 9 different partners from the Canary Islands, Madeira, Azores and Cape Verde. One of its main objectives is the creation of an independent “Climate Change Observatory of the Macaronesia” enabling the adoption of preventive and corrective measures, as well as facilitating tools to manage natural risks caused by climate change.
In the context of this project SITMA collaborates in glider deployment operations for the execution of oceanographic campaigns across the study region.
